The Zaans Museum takes you to a world-famous part of Holland. That of the mills, industries, green wooden houses and Dutch icons such as Albert Heijn, Honig and Verkade.
The museum at Zaanse Schans takes you into the history of the industry, the green wooden houses and the merchant spirit. You will learn about the oldest industrial area in Europe, the mills and factories. And don’t forget the Verkade Experience. Here you are in an early 20th century chocolate and biscuit factory, where the original machines are still running and the history of Verkade comes to life.
The museum has Claude Monet’s painting, De Voorzaan and the Westerhem in its collection. Monet painted this when he visited the Zaan region in 1871, 150 years ago this year, and was inspired by it.
