The National Lifeboat Museum Dorus Rijkers is located in the old engine workshop of the historic Naval Dockyard ‘Willemsoord’ in Den Helder. Much of the old engine workshop is still visible throughout the museum today. The museum may look deceptively small from the outside, but inside is filled with pictures, film, stories, model boats and much more related to the history of the Dutch lifeboats and the stories of the men who manned them.

There is plenty to entertain our younger visitors too: Try the heroes’ game and see if you are ready to join the lifeboat crew; feel the force of a force 10 gale in de wind turbine; experience rough seas on the lifeboat simulator; all things a real lifeboat crew cab experience every day when rescuing crew at sea.
