The Swiss watch brand Swatch opened its flagship store in the heart of Amsterdam last summer. The store at the P.C. Hooftstraat is the second location in Amsterdam, Swatch also has stores in Rotterdam and Utrecht.
Inspired by Amsterdam
With a retail area of 100 square meters and a split-level layout, the design is reminiscent of canal houses. Visitors enter at the level of canal houses and then descend ‘below sea level’ of the Netherlands. The store is divided into a ‘blue part’ with marble elements and a ‘green part’ that transitions into a city garden through a conservatory.
3D artwork ‘Stargazer’s Canal’
A striking feature of the store is the unique 3D artwork ‘Stargazer’s canal’ by Enzo Pérès-Labourdette. This work of art consists of sixteen sculptural canal houses inspired by the Amsterdam canals and the starry sky reflected in the water. The use of innovative materials and 3D printing, together with Enzo’s characteristic style and humor, bring the history of Dutch ceramics to life in a fresh and youthful way.
