The museum is located in the old Tolhuis of Laren, which has been expanded with a modern museum wing. It is located next to St. Janskerkhof, traditionally the center of Het Gooi.
The wide variety of landscapes in the region, the location on an Ice Age moraine and the beautiful heathlands make this an excellent location for a geological museum.
