Drents Museum De Buitenplaats brings art, architecture and nature together in Eelde. The ensemble consists of an organically designed museum pavilion, a landscaped museum garden and the seventeenth-century Nijsinghhuis.
The museum was founded in the early 1990s by collectors Jos and Janneke van Groeningen. Architects Ton Alberts and Max van Huut designed a pavilion in which human scale, natural forms and the surrounding garden are closely connected. The collection and exhibitions focus on art around 1900, figurative art, art nouveau and the relationship between culture and nature. A walk through the garden and the historic Nijsinghhuis adds further layers of architecture and decorative art to the visit.
